Storms could wash away Saharan haze on Monday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A summer front dropping south from North Texas will send a round of storms toward Houston Monday, which could help wash some of the haze away.

Temperatures will start out in the upper 70s and warm to near 90 before the storms impact Houston from the late morning to early afternoon. Any storms that push south of Houston should fizzle by the evening.

How long with the Saharan dust cloud stick around, and should I be concerned about the air quality?
It appears the dust will stick around until Tuesday afternoon, and will add enough particulate matter to the atmosphere to push the air quality index into the “moderate” category. Most people won’t notice a difference, but if you are unusually sensitive to these clouds, your allergies could flare. Another Saharan dust cloud could reach us on Friday.

Is it going to be another rainy week?

No! After Monday’s 40% chance for rain, the chance drops to 20% Tuesday and Wednesday. Added moisture from a tropical wave on Thursday will boost the chance back up to 40%, then it should drop back down to 20% for the weekend ahead.
