More downpours possible Wednesday, another summer front on the way

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Wednesday brings more summer heat, but it also brings another chance for a cooling afternoon downpour.

Temperatures will start off in the upper 70s and heat up into the mid 90s before the thunderstorms start to form. While many will stay dry, those that do get a storm could get a quick inch of rain along with frequent rumbles of thunder.

Another ozone pollution watch is in effect Wednesday. High levels of ozone pollution are possible from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in and around Houston.

How long will these rain chances stick around?
The upper level low to our south will keep moisture flowing over us for the rest of the work week. Scattered showers and storms will be possible through Saturday, and it now looks like rain chances will continue right into next week as another summer front pushes into Houston.

What are we expecting this weekend?

More heat! A few afternoon downpours are possible Saturday, but a heat dome should squash the clouds and rain chance Sunday down to 20%. This will send high temperatures back toward 100-degrees.

When will the next summer front impact us?
At this time it appears the front will impact us after the weekend, approaching Monday night and arriving on Tuesday. The timing could shift a day earlier or later, but when it does arrive, widely scattered downpours are possible followed by near “normal” temps with highs in the mid 90s and lows in the mid 70s.
