Bolder Adventure Park will offer rock climbing, zip lines and ice skating in Grand Prairie

A new adventure park in Grand Prairie will bring the mountains to North Texas.

This week, ground will be broken on the Bolder Adventure Park, a 66,000-square foot indoor adventure park that will include rock climbing structures, zip lines and ropes courses.

The park, which is scheduled to open next summer, will be the latest addition to Grand Prairie’s Epic Central entertainment district.

CEO Paul Fontanelli said he got the idea for Bolder Adventure Park after visiting a similar outdoor attraction in Park City, Utah.

“We wanted to recreate the great outdoors and sense of adventure, but in an indoor environment in a place with no mountains,” Fontanelli said. “This will be something fun and exciting and truly unique for this area.”

The park will have 75-foot ceilings to allow for tall peaks, he said, and rock walls will be coated in concrete that is carved and shaped to look like rocks.

Additional features will include tubing slides, adventure nets and ice skating. It will also house a Via Ferrata course, which is a system of steel rungs and cables fixed to the side of a rock that climbers can use to secure themselves.

Grand Prairie’s Epic Central, which already includes a water park and recreation center, is an ideal location for the park, Fontanelli said. The district is also getting two new hotels and several restaurants, including a Chicken N Pickle, Vidorra and Stirr.

As he planned the park, Fontanelli, who worked in finance before quitting to open Bolder, said he considered what his own family that includes three young children would enjoy.

“There will be something here for all ages,” he said. “Families can come and spend the day here having an adventure.”

More information about the venue is available online.
