COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Irving. Here’s what you should know

Irving continues to have one of the highest COVID-19 infection rates in Dallas County.

The city has recorded 265 COVID-19 related deaths and 30,174 cases since the start of the pandemic, according to the Dallas County Health Department.

In Dallas County, only Dallas itself and Garland have more cases, both current and total.

Newly reported cases bring the county’s overall case total to 328,289, including 281,121 confirmed and 47,168 probable. The death toll is 4,238.

The continued backward slide in the fight against COVID-19 prompted Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins on Wednesday to issue a new mandate that masks be worn in Dallas County schools, including Irving, and businesses.

“We are in a war against COVID and, sadly, COVID once again has the upper hand,” Jenkins said in a tweet Wednesday.

According to the state, 1,399,722 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,162,994 — 53.3% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Dallas County’s case counts for Irving are updated Tuesday and Friday.
