Rain chances rise for part of the weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another summer front pushing down the Plains will bring more chances for cooling downpours both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday morning should be mostly dry with the exception of a few showers possible near the coast. Temperatures will bottom out in the mid 70s and then warm into the mid 90s during the afternoon. The front in North Texas will push a line of storms into Southeast Texas by Saturday evening. These storms could produce gusty winds up to 50 mph, a quick 1″ of rain, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. Your chance of rain is 40%. If you have outdoor plans Saturday evening, just keep tabs on the weather with our MegaDoppler 13 radar.

What can we expect for the rest of the weekend?
Sunday will bring an even higher chance for showers and thunderstorms as deeper moisture collects over us ahead of the front. Once again it should be mostly dry in the morning, but once temperatures cross the 90-degree mark, widely scattered downpours will pop up. Temperatures will briefly warm into the mid 90s Sunday afternoon before the storms cool us off into the 80s and 70s.

Is there anything to be concerned about in the tropics?
For Texas, no. For Florida, yes. Tropical Depression Fred has prompted Tropical Storm Watches for southwest Florida and the Keys. The forecast track takes it into the eastern Gulf this weekend. Right behind Fred is Tropical Depression Seven, likely to become Grace over the weekend. You can stay on top of everything happening in the tropics with our daily tropical update.
