Frisco police officer arrested on suspicion of inappropriate relationship with 17-year-old student

A Frisco police officer was arrested Friday on suspicion of having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old Frisco ISD student, police said.

John Hoover, 35, was fired Wednesday from his job as an officer with the Frisco Police Department’s school resource officer unit, the department said. He was hired in 2011.

“At this time, there is no information to suggest that any student at Hoover’s assigned school was involved,” the department said in a prepared statement.

Police said they began investigating Hoover after they were alerted Sunday about the alleged inappropriate relationship. He is in the Denton County Jail on a charge of sexual performance of a child, a second-degree felony. Bail stands at $100,000.

“Through his criminal behavior, this former officer has violated the code of ethics that he swore to uphold,” Frisco Police Chief David Shilson said in a prepared statement. “Our best path forward is to demonstrate as a professional law enforcement agency that we are not hesitant to hold this individual accountable for his actions.”

Anyone who has information related to the case is asked to call Frisco police at 972-292-6010. Tips can be submitted anonymously by texting the letters FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411 (tip411).
