Punjab School Education Department to act against unvaccinated teachers

LAHORE: The Punjab School Education Department (SED) on Monday decided to take action against the teachers who failed to get themselves vaccinated against Covid.

Earlier, the Punjab government had made coronavirus vaccination compulsory for the teachers, administration and other staff members of all the public and private schools. The officials, who did not get themselves vaccinated till Aug 22, were not allowed to enter the premises of schools.

The department claimed that around 98 per cent of public and private schools teachers received vaccination till Aug 22.

According to details, as many as 3,800 teachers had not yet received coronavirus vaccination while more than 600,000 teachers of public and private schools had received jabs.

The teachers and employees of the schools were directed to submit vaccination certificates in their schools.

The SED also had constituted monitoring teams to conduct surprise raids in schools to check the vaccination certificate.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre, 53,881 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours and 3,772 tested positive. The total number of cases has risen to 1,127,584 and the positivity ratio is 7pc.

Punjab reported the highest number of deaths during the last 24 hours with 30 fatalities, followed by 25 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The province’s infection tally has risen to 380,844, and the death toll has climbed to 11,557.
