Another North Texas school closes for the week as COVID-19 cases rise

Amid rising COVID-19 cases, another North Texas school is closing its doors for the remainder of the week.

Boyd ISD will close its elementary school tomorrow and Friday so custodial staff can disinfect the building, the district announced today. Classes will resume on Monday.

The district looked at the elementary school’s staffing and attendance ratios, determining that a safe and supported instructional program could not be met. Classes had been in session for about two weeks before today’s closure.

Boyd ISD is the latest district to halt in-person classes due to rising COVID-19 cases.

Trivium Academy, a charter school in Carrollton, is closing down from Aug. 27 to Sept. 6. The school will be open tomorrow to give parents a chance to make arrangements, the board announced today.

Kemp ISD in Kaufman County will be closed for the remainder of the week, reopening its doors on Monday.

Iraan-Sheffield ISD, a district about 80 miles south of Midland, closed down its three campuses last week, keeping its 338 students home until Monday.

Bloomburg and Waskom ISDs — two small districts in East Texas on the borders of Arkansas and Louisiana, respectively— closed down about a week after starting classes in early August.

Both Bloomburg and Waskom reopened this week.
