Houston spared by Hurricane Ida’s worst, but leftover moisture could bring storms at mid-week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A band of moisture over the Gulf associated with Ida will lift into Southeast Texas Tuesday. That moisture will bring a few showers and thunderstorms near the coast around sunrise, then as temperatures warm into the upper 90s in the afternoon, a few thunderstorms will pop up inland.

The same basic pattern will repeat again Wednesday, but with even more moisture in the atmosphere, there’s a slightly better chance you’ll get a storm.

How does Labor Day weekend look?
A heat ridge will build in for the holiday weekend, bring more sunshine and more heat. High temperature will soar into the upper 90s under a mostly sunny sky. A little extra moisture returns for Labor Day to bring back more clouds and a less than 20% chance for rain.

Is there anything else in the tropics we need to keep an eye on?
A new disturbance is expected to form in the Caribbean Sea later this week, and while it’s too soon to determine where it will go, there are some hints that it could possibly impact Texas next week. You can keep up with the tropics with our daily tropical update.
