COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Irving. Here’s what you should know

Irving continues to have one of the highest COVID-19 infection rates in Dallas County.

The city has recorded 272 COVID-19 related deaths and 32,230 cases since the start of the pandemic, according to the Dallas County Health Department.

In Dallas County, only Dallas itself and Garland have more cases, both current and total.

Newly reported cases bring the county’s overall case total to 356,069, including 304,257 confirmed and 51,812 probable. The death toll is 4,354.

County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that “the amount of space available at hospitals is extremely tight” as the delta variant runs rampant, and he encouraged residents to get vaccinated to protect themselves and others.

“If you are unvaccinated, it’s not a matter of if you’ll get COVID, but when,” he said.

The county reported that 1,006 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,490,513 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,239,077 — 56.8% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
