Dallas County reported 2,505 new coronavirus cases Thursday — the county’s most in a single day since mid-January — as well as 11 more deaths from COVID-19.
By comparison, Dallas County reported 3,340 cases during the entire month of June. The county is now reporting more cases than that every three days.

County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that, as case totals and hospitalizations continue to climb, “it is imperative that we all do what we can” to stop the virus from spreading — including wearing masks indoors even if vaccinated.
Jenkins urged people who haven’t been inoculated to get a free, safe vaccine as soon as possible, and he stressed that the highly contagious delta variant is bound to spread at large gatherings over the Labor Day weekend.
“If you’re unvaccinated, forgo travel and large events this weekend, as your chances of contracting the delta variant of COVID are very, very high,” Jenkins said.
Of the new cases, 2,042 were confirmed and 463 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 356,069, including 304,257 confirmed and 51,812 probable. The death toll is 4,354.
The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 1,333. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 1,098.
The county reported that 1,006 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 1,490,513 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,239,077 — 56.8% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Texas
Across the state, 22,368 more cases were reported Thursday, including 21,967 new cases and 401 older ones recently reported by labs.
The state also reported 341 COVID-19 deaths, raising its toll to 56,296.
Of the new cases, 17,099 were confirmed and 4,868 were probable. Of the older cases, 274 were confirmed and 127 were probable.
The state’s case total is now 3,634,358, including 3,057,285 confirmed and 577,073 probable.
There are a total of 13,790 hospitalizations in the state, including 3,504 in North Texas.
According to the state, 16,531,113 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 13,808,684 — 57.4% of the state’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Tarrant County
Tarrant County reported 14 deaths and 1,459 cases Thursday.
Of the new cases, 1,197 were confirmed and 262 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 307,455, including 256,361 confirmed and 51,094 probable. The death toll is 3,895.
The county reported that 1,126 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 1,110,678 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 952,894 — 54.8% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Collin County
The state added one death and 1,130 cases to Collin County’s totals Thursday.
Of the new cases, 893 were confirmed and 237 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 111,426, including 91,292 confirmed and 20,134 probable. The death toll is 909.
The county reported that 417 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 660,772 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 578,021 — 66.8% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Denton County
Denton County reported 335 cases Thursday. No additional deaths were reported.
The newly reported cases bring the county’s case total to 90,124, including 65,768 confirmed and 24,356 probable. The death toll is 663.
The county reported that 201 people were hospitalized with the virus.
According to the state, 516,685 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 456,748 — 60.9% of the county’s population 12 and older — are fully vaccinated.
Other counties
The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.
The latest numbers are:
- Rockwall County: 14,548 cases (11,440 confirmed and 3,108 probable), 173 deaths.
- Kaufman County: 19,940 cases (16,274 confirmed and 3,666 probable), 308 deaths.
- Ellis County: 27,410 cases (22,135 confirmed and 5,275 probable), 357 deaths.
- Johnson County: 23,278 cases (19,416 confirmed and 3,862 probable), 418 deaths.
