Fewer storms means hotter temps for the weekend

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — More heat than rain today, with only a few isolated showers and storms popping this afternoon. Most of us will stay dry for any outdoor activities, but we’ll stay hot as well with high temps in the upper 90s.

How does Labor Day weekend look?
A heat ridge will build in for the holiday weekend, bringing more sunshine and more heat. High temperatures will soar to near 100 under a mostly sunny sky. A little extra moisture returns for Labor Day as a front pushes into Texas. This will push our rain chance up to 40%, so if you have outdoor plans you’ll need to be prepare to run for cover if you get any of the thunderstorms.

Is there anything else in the tropics we need to keep an eye on?
A small area of low pressure has formed in the southwestern Caribbean Sea which is producing some disorganized showers. It has a low chance of development over the next few days but we will keep a close eye on it as it moves into the southwest Gulf by Sunday. You can keep up with the tropics with our daily tropical update.
