HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We’re going to make another run toward 100 degrees today before the pattern changes on Labor Day.
While the weather through the daytime will be warm and mostly dry, things get a bit more interesting tonight as a front drops down from north to south across the area. This frontal boundary will fire up some showers and storms in our northern counties this evening, and will bring better rain chances to Houston by Labor Day morning.
What do our rain chances look like for Labor Day?
Right now we’re giving you a 40% of getting rain sometime on Labor Day. This rain will be associated with a weak front pushing into Texas, and the timing of the rain continues to speed up. It now appears that the majority of the showers and thunderstorms will occur in the first half of the day, which would mean drier weather for the second half of the day. If you have outdoor plans you’ll want to have a way to check the radar and be prepared to run for cover if you cross paths with any thunderstorms.
Will anything in the tropics threaten the Gulf of Mexico for the week ahead?
We are monitoring an area of low pressure over the Yucatan. It will push into the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday where it will have a low chance of development through Thursday. It’s still too soon to determine what, if any, impacts there will be to Southeast Texas, and you can stay informed with our daily tropical update.
