2 firefighters injured, residents displaced after fire at Far North Dallas apartments

Two firefighters were injured and some residents were displaced Monday afternoon after a fire at an apartment building in Far North Dallas, Dallas Fire-Rescue officials said.

Both firefighters were expected to recover, according to the fire department. There were no reported injuries among residents.

Dallas Fire-Rescue units responded about 4:40 p.m. to reports of the blaze at the Windridge on the Parkway Apartments at 14350 Dallas Parkway, near the Dallas North Tollway and Spring Valley Road.

The fire was coming from a first-floor apartment and traveling toward the balcony of the unit above it in the two-story building, which had eight apartments total, officials said. While battling the blaze, the two firefighters were struck by falling debris from a collapsed balcony.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze just after 6 p.m. Two of the eight apartments suffered some fire damage while the other six had varying degrees of smoke and water damage, the fire department said.

The American Red Cross has been notified to help residents who were displaced, Dallas Fire-Rescue said. It was unclear how many people couldn’t go back to their apartments.

Officials were investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
