Here’s what dropping dewpoints may mean for Houston’s heat

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The front that brought the downpours on Labor Day has dropped humidity today, and the drier air will stick around through the work week.

We’ll enjoy more comfortable mornings, but very hot afternoons. At least it’ll be a “dry” heat! Moisture is not expected to return until later in the weekend.

Will this front actually bring us cooler weather?
Not really, but morning lows will be a bit cooler, dropping in to the upper 60s in spots each morning throughout the week. This dry air will also allow the temperature to again spike to the upper 90s by Thursday. The front also has the added benefit of protecting us from a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico.

What will the tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico do this week?
The disturbance only has a 40% chance of development due to high wind shear. As the front pushes into the Gulf, it is expected to force the area of low pressure northeastward toward Florida. You can stay informed on the tropics with our daily tropical update.
