Parts of I-30 in both directions closed until Monday morning for bridge demolitions, TxDOT says

The Texas Department of Transportation is reminding motorists that closures will affect Interstate 30 traffic in both directions this weekend.

Different stretches of eastbound and westbound I-30 will be shut down between State Highway 360 and the Bush Turnpike through 5 a.m. Monday, TxDOT said.

The closures will allow crews to demolish a frontage road bridge on northbound SH360 and an underpass at I-30 and Six Flags Drive, TxDOT said.

Val Lopez, a spokesman for the agency’s Fort Worth office, said the work is part of a $233 million project to add interchange ramps that will better connect I-30 and SH360. The interchange is near AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Park, Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor.

“This is a crossroads of the metroplex — I-30 and SH 360 — with all those features and venues out there,” Lopez said. “So there was a very strong demand for this type of upgrade.”

Lopez said this is the fourth time TxDOT has had to close parts of I-30 in both directions for the project. The agency also expects it to be the last, he said.

Eastbound I-30 traffic will exit at Six Flags Drive, travel under SH360 and get back on I-30 once east of SH360, TxDOT said. Westbound motorists will detour south along the Bush Turnpike, go west on Main Street to North Collins Street, then return north to I-30, it said.

Delays are expected in the area, and TxDOT urges drivers to seek alternate routes.
