Plano police lieutenant’s death attributed to COVID-19

A Plano Police Department lieutenant has died from complications related to the COVID-19 virus, the department announced on its Facebook page.

Lt. Earnest Oldham, 57, died Thursday at a local hospital, according to the department.

Oldham began his law enforcement career with the Garland Police Department in 1987 and he joined the Plano Police Department in 1992.

His survivors include a wife, teenage twins (a son and daughter), and several relatives and friends.

“He will be missed greatly,” the department wrote. “Lieutenant Oldham, thank you for your dedicated service to our community.”

Oldham is one of the latest COVID-19-related deaths among area emergency responders in North Texas.

Roland Asebado, 56, a fire marshal and director of development and emergency services for Denton County, died Sept 13 from COVID-19, previously reported.

On Sept. 2, Dallas firefighter David Leos, 62, became the department’s first fire-rescue worker to die of complications from COVID-19. Leos had been hospitalized since July 17 and died at Parkland Hospital, The News previously reported.
