HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Do you have plans to be out and about this weekend? If so, you may want to know about these road closures before heading out.
In part two of the I-610 West Loop/ I-69 Southwest Freeway interchange project, the Texas Department of Transportation has closed all northbound and southbound mainlanes of the Southwest Freeway at the West Loop. The closure begins Friday, Oct. 1 at 9 p.m. and will end Monday, Oct. 4 at 5 a.m.

The West Loop Frontage Road will also be closed southbound from Richmond to Westpark. This closure will be in effect until Monday at 5 a.m.
The same closures happened the previous weekend, with lanes reopening Monday, Sept. 27.
So why are all of the mainlanes being closed? Crews are continuing construction on the new I-69 northbound connector ramp to I-610 West Loop northbound, which spans over the mainlanes of I-69 Southwest Freeway. This ramp is expected to open later this year.
Police officers will be onsite to assist with traffic control.
The I-69/I-610 interchange is a major connection point of two extremely busy highways serving the Greater Houston area. The $259 million project is anticipated to enhance safety and improve mobility by widening the connector ramps to two lanes, increasing sight distances, and providing remedies to eliminate weaving. The project has incentives and disincentives to encourage the contractor to complete various phases sooner than anticipated.
