Rain gradually clearing today, another round of storms comes tomorrow

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — All Flash Flood Warnings and Advisories have been allowed to expire as the heaviest of the rain pushes east of Houston towards Beaumont.

We’ll continue to see the rain taper off, with much less rain across the Houston area this afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will hold steady in the 70s while it is raining, then try to warm into the low 80s after the storms clear in the afternoon.

Any storm could drop a quick inch or two of rain and produce frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. Minor street flooding is possible in the heavier downpours.

How much more rain could we get this week?
An additional 1-2″ of rain will be fairly common, but there could be some neighborhoods that pick up over 4″ by the end of Sunday.

What is the outlook for the weekend?
Rain is possible both days this weekend, but Saturday brings a higher chance of rain (70%) than Sunday (40%). Temperatures both days will stay in a similar range, warming from the low 70s in the morning and peaking in the mid 80s during the afternoon. A front moving in late Sunday will put an end to the rain chances for several days.

Okay, you mentioned a front. How cool will it get?
This front is more of a “dry” front, dropping the humidity more than anything. You’ll notice cooler temperatures in the 60s around sunrise and lower humidity in the afternoon sunshine. You may get to enjoy this dry air for all of next work week.

Is there anything of concern in the tropics?
At this time, no. Tropical Storm Victor is moving away from Africa, and Sam is still a major hurricane. Both storms are expected to stay out in the Atlantic and far away from the Gulf. You can get a full overview of the tropics on our tropical update page.
