Ozone Pollution Watch in effect again Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another round of great weather is on the way Thursday, but there are still some air quality and allergy issues we’ll need to navigate.

Abundant sunshine will warm temperatures from the mid 60s at sunrise to around 90 in the afternoon, but the humidity will be low. It should feel rather comfortable in the shade.

When abundant sunshine, light winds, and warm air occur in tandem over Houston, it often leads to high levels of ozone pollution. We are under an Ozone Pollution Watch for Thursday and Friday. Ragweed pollen and mold spore counts also remain high.
How long will the dry air stick around?
We’ll get to enjoy the dry air all the way until the weekend. You can expect morning lows in the low-to-mid 60s with highs in the upper 80s.

What’s the outlook for the weekend?
A stronger Gulf breeze will push up the humidity levels Saturday and especially Sunday. You’ll feel the biggest difference in the humidity, which will keep low temperatures closer to 70. Highs will still top out in the upper 80s. By Sunday there will be enough moisture for a 20% chance of a shower.

Is there anything of concern in the tropics?

At this time, no. Texas is normally done with hurricane season by mid October as the steering currents shift and push fronts into the state instead of tropical weather systems. You can get a full overview of the tropics on our tropical update page.
