Severe Storms in DFW before midnight

The wind gusted as high as 30 to 40 mph Sunday afternoon. And that strong south wind brought much higher humidity along with some clouds.

Thunderstorms will develop between Wichita Falls and Abilene this evening. Some of these will become severe as they move to the east. The tornado threat will be rather low for DFW, but considerably higher between Wichita Falls and Gainesville, and especially northward into Oklahoma. A Tornado Watch is in effect until 10 pm there, though it does not reach into our portion of North Texas.

We then expect those individual storms to merge into a solid line. That squall line will then move eastward through DFW between 9 and 11 pm, with the main threat being damaging wind gusts at that time. The storms will move into east Texas by midnight, and gradually decrease in intensity.

Monday will be sunny, warm and much less humid. But another storm system will approach during the week. So storm chances will begin again as early as Tuesday, and really ramp up again Wednesday and Thursday. DFW may see 2 to 3 inches of rain between now and Thursday.
