Fall front on the way, but first heat and tropical rains

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A warm front will blow in from the Gulf of Mexico Tuesday morning to bring back summer-like heat and humidity, but a strong fall front is on the way.

The sticky air will be back by sunrise with temperatures in the mid 70s. There’s a 20% chance you’ll come across a rain shower for the morning drive. Temperatures will climb to near 90 in the afternoon as the sun pokes out from the clouds. Isolated shower are still possible in the afternoon, especially north of Houston.

What are the rain chances for the rest of week?
The rain chance will drop to less than 20% on Wednesday, but they’ll increase to 40% Thursday and 30% Friday as moisture gets pulled in from Tropical Storm Pamela in the Pacific. Pamela is expected to make landfall as a hurricane on the western coast of Mexico sometime Wednesday, and that moisture will be pushed our way. A stronger cold front is expected to move in Friday evening, and this front will bring in significantly drier and cooler weather to Southeast Texas for next weekend.

How cool will it get behind the front?
We expect high temperatures in the 70s this weekend with lows in the 50s.

Is there anything of concern in the tropics?

Texas is normally done with hurricane season by mid October, but we are monitoring Pacific storm Pamela that could bring flooding rains to parts of Texas later this week. You can get a full overview of the tropics on our tropical update page.
