Richardson’s most recent COVID-19 figures as delta variant cases surge

Richardson has reported at least 9,433 total cases of COVID-19 and 130 deaths, according to the most recent information available.

Throughout the pandemic, the city has not collected its own data, and Collin County commissioners voted in November to remove all data from its dashboard except hospitalizations. The Richardson totals are from Dallas County and do not include the portion of the city that falls in Collin County.

The Department of State Health Services has posted information about when and where Texas residents can get a vaccine. Shots are now open to all adults. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine, go here.

COVID-19 case numbers in Collin and Dallas counties dropped temporarily when vaccinations became accessible to all adults across the state. As the stronger, more transmissible variant of the virus sweeps across the nation, cases are back on the rise in North Texas.

Health experts suggest that the newer variant — now the dominant strain in the country — is also more resistant to vaccinations. Dr. James Cutrell, an infectious-disease expert at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, told The News he expects the two-dose Moderna and Pfizer vaccines can still offer up to 90% protection against the variant, while one dose of the vaccines could offer about 30% to 50% protection.
