6-year-old girl killed after stepping off school bus in NW Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A 6-year-old girl was hit and killed Wednesday afternoon by a passing truck as she got off a school bus in northwest Houston.

It happened just after 4:30 p.m. in the 9600 block of West Montgomery Road.

The child had just exited the school bus and was crossing the street when a black Chevrolet pickup truck hit her, according to Houston police.

The girl was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck remained on the scene after the crash, and authorities said they do not believe impairment was a factor in what happened.

Investigators said they planned to review the driver’s phone records to determine whether a cell phone was in use at the time of the crash.
