Arlington teacher ‘punched and kicked’ by student

An Arlington ISD teacher was assaulted this week by a student, who has since been bonded out of city jail.

High School student Connor Hughes, 17, was charged with assaulting a public servant on Tuesday, according to Arlington police. Hughes’ bond was set at $7,500 and bonded out of Arlington City Jail on Wednesday.

Hughes “intentionally and knowingly punched and kicked” Chris Pate, a ninth grade English teacher at Arlington High School, multiple times, according to an Arlington Police report.

Pate sustained visible bodily injury from the assault, per the report. She has taught for over 30 years and is an Arlington High School alumna herself, according to her teacher page.

The district did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
