Rain chances increase this afternoon

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another warm and muggy morning with patchy dense fog across Southeast Texas. There’s no Dense Fog Advisory, but we are seeing some locations outside of the Houston Metro with visibility at 1/4 mile, so be cautious if you plan on being out on the roads early.

As we go through the day we’ll keep our “sticky” weather around, with rain chances starting along the coast later this morning, gradually building inland through the afternoon. The best chance for rain for most of the area comes this afternoon, but will quickly wind down this evening.

When will our next cold front arrive?
It looks like you’ll be waiting until the middle of next week. We have the next cold front penciled in for Wednesday, October 27th.

Is there any rain that could cool us off before then?
Our rain chances will go up a bit over the weekend as deeper moisture from the Gulf moves in. You have a 40% chance of a downpour on Saturday and a 30% chance on Sunday. Tropical moisture could bring higher rain chances by Tuesday/Wednesday. It all depends on the track a developing storm in the Pacific takes.

How does the weekend look?
It will remain warm and humid this weekend, but as mentioned above there is a chance for cooling downpours. These showers will blossom with the warmth of the day, so we should see the radar quiet down by evening. The Gulf breeze will keep low temperatures near 70 with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s.

Is there anything of concern in the tropics?

Texas is normally done with hurricane season by mid October. Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog explains whyhere. We will be monitoring a developing system in the Pacific that could send moisture into Texas next week and bring us a higher chance of heavy rain.
