Dallas police officer injured during crash while assisting with a call in northwest Dallas

A Dallas police officer was taken to the hospital after a crash in northwest Dallas early Saturday.

Police said the officer was assisting Dallas Fire-Rescue with a call around 2:45 a.m. in the 11400 block of Harry Hines Boulevard, near Royal Lane, when his squad car was struck by another vehicle.

Dallas police said the rear of the vehicle was clipped, but video from the crash site showed damage to the front passenger’s side of a squad car.

The officer was injured and taken to a hospital. Police did not identify the officer but said he was in stable condition.

The motorist who hit his squad car was not hurt and stayed at the scene of the crash, police said.

The person who hit the officer’s car, who has not been identified, will face a charge of failure to yield to an oncoming emergency vehicle, said Melinda Gutierrez, a police spokeswoman.
