Suspect in fatal shooting arrested after 10 people wounded at Halloween party in Texarkana

A 21-year-old man turned himself in to Texarkana police Sunday in connection with a shooting that killed one man and wounded nine other people at a Halloween party the night before.

Police obtained a warrant early Sunday for the arrest of Keuntae McElroy, who they said approached authorities later that morning. He was arrested on a charge of felony aggravated assault.

Police said additional charges are expected to be filed Monday.

Police estimate that “at least a couple hundred people” were at an event center in Texarkana when gunfire erupted about midnight.

The 10 people who were shot went to two hospitals for treatment, police said.

A 20-year-old man was later pronounced dead at one of the hospitals. His name was not released. Police said the injuries of the other nine people didn’t appear to be life-threatening.

Texarkana is on the Texas border, about 180 miles east of Dallas.
