Former Grand Prairie teacher arrested after allegations of an inappropriate relationship

Police arrested a former Grand Prairie teacher Friday afternoon after allegations arose about an inappropriate relationship.

Administrators received information two weeks ago about an incident that allegedly involved Matthew Ramos, who previously taught at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Arnold, GPISD spokesperson Sam Buchmeyer wrote in a statement.

School officials notified police that same afternoon, launching an investigation that led to Friday’s arrest, Buchmeyer noted.

Ramos could not be reached for comment. He faces charges of indecency with a child, sexual contact, online soliciting of a minor and improper relationship between educator and student. His bonds are set at $125,000.

Ramos, who joined GPISD in 2013, had taught social studies for more than eight years, Buchmeyer said. Ramos has not been on campus since the investigation was opened and has resigned.

He taught sixth- and seventh-grade students, according to the school’s website.

“I want parents to know that we do not tolerate any form of inappropriate communication or contact between a teacher and a student,” Grand Prairie ISD Superintendent Linda Ellis said in a statement.

“We will always act swiftly to make sure concerns are properly investigated and action is taken to ensure our students’ safety.”
