Plano’s Davis Library closes temporarily for construction work

Plano’s Davis Library will temporarily close starting Dec. 4 to allow for faster completion of renovations, the city said in an announcement.

Davis Library is expected to reopen by spring of 2022.

Construction on the Davis Library project began in April and as it progressed, so did disruptions to patrons and staff, the announcement says. The city has decided that temporarily closing the library is the best option, which should also allow the project to be completed about two months ahead of schedule.

During the closure, patrons are asked to visit Plano’s other libraries:

Library materials and donations can also be returned to those locations. The nearest library to Davis is Schimelpfenig, which is 2.7 miles away.

The $5.3 million dollar Davis Library project is being funded through a 2017 voter-approved bond referendum. The project will expand services and extend the library into the joint-use facility connected by a breezeway.

Other changes include:

  • Doubling the size of the children’s area
  • Adding a dedicated children’s program room
  • New study rooms to make it easier to research projects and prepare classroom assignments
  • Additional meeting rooms

The city’s announcement asks for everyone’s patience as the renovations are made.
