Dallas County reports 3,784 coronavirus cases, 63 deaths in past week

Dallas County reported 63 more COVID-19 deaths and 3,784 new coronavirus cases in the past week.

The weekly case total was the county’s highest in about two months and comes as local officials warn of a new wave of illness fueled by the omicron variant of the virus.

Of the new cases, 2,989 were confirmed and 795 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s overall case total to 422,724, including 356,378 confirmed and 66,346 probable. The death toll is 5,434.

The average number of new daily cases in the county for the last two weeks is 431. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 299.

The county reported that 208 people were hospitalized with the virus.

County Judge Clay Jenkins urged residents who are eligible to get vaccine booster shots to ensure that they have the most protection possible against the virus.

According to the state, 1,707,433 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,464,934 — 59.6% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated. About 14.7% of that population has received a booster dose.

Texas

The state reported 53,876 more cases in the past week, including 42,402 confirmed cases and 11,474 probable cases. That total is more than twice the 26,050 cases reported the previous week.

The state also reported 441 COVID-19 deaths over the past week, raising its toll to 73,918.

The state’s case total is now 4,434,762, including 3,675,680 confirmed and 759,082 probable.

There are a total of 3,156 hospitalizations in the state, including 861 in North Texas.

According to the state, 19,104,494 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 16,322,032 — 60.5% of the state’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant County

Tarrant County reported 26 deaths and 2,370 cases in the past week.

Of the new cases, 1,739 were confirmed and 631 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 378,440, including 311,039 confirmed and 67,401 probable. The death toll is 4,986.

The county reported that 246 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,266,091 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,114,789 — 57.4% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Collin County

The state added eight deaths and 1,606 cases to Collin County’s totals in the past week.

Of the new cases, 1,138 were confirmed and 468 were probable. The numbers bring the county’s case total to 137,017, including 110,672 confirmed and 26,345 probable. The death toll is 1,200.

The county reported that 139 people were hospitalized with the virus as of Monday.

According to the state, 743,014 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 655,107 — 68.0% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported four deaths and 982 cases in the past week.

The numbers bring the county’s case total to 113,923, including 82,094 confirmed and 31,829 probable. The death toll is 758.

The county reported that 78 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 582,223 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 520,452 — 62.7% of the county’s population 5 and older — are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has taken over reporting for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 18,230 cases (13,946 confirmed and 4,284 probable), 225 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 24,813 cases (19,717 confirmed and 5,096 probable), 449 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 34,822 cases (27,344 confirmed and 7,478 probable), 489 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 30,109 cases (23,926 confirmed and 6,183 probable), 587 deaths.
