Record breaking heat this Christmas… here’s how long it lasts

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — ‘Twas the day before Christmas and all through the house, the AC was cranking or else you’d be doused (in sweat).

Admittedly, my poetry needs a bit of work, but the forecast for unseasonably warm weather remains spot on. Temps today will eclipse 80 degrees, and we’ll be even warmer on Christmas day.

Just how warm will it get Christmas weekend?
We’ll make it to the lower 80s on Friday Christmas Eve. By Christmas, it’ll be breezy, humid, and very warm. It now looks we’ll break the record for the warmest Christmas with a high temp of 84.

How long will this wave of warmth last?
A big heat ridge will build in and stick around all the way through the end of 2021. Our high temps could challenge records through next week. We could see a cold front arrive early in 2022 to bring a us a bit of a cool down.

Is there any rainy weather in sight?

We’re going to have to wait for it. That same high pressure ridge will keep us dry through the weekend. Just enough moisture will make it in between Tuesday and Friday next week for a few showers. And if our models are right, we might be ringing in the new year with thunderstorms.
