Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones’ wife arrested Christmas Eve in Austin on domestic violence charge

The wife of far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was arrested Christmas Eve on a domestic violence charge in Austin, authorities say.

Travis County sheriff’s deputies arrested and booked Erika Wulff Jones, 43, in county jail about 8:45 p.m. Friday. Court records showed she faces misdemeanor charges of assault causing bodily injury to a family member and resisting arrest, search or transport, The Associated Press reported.

Alex Jones, the Austin-based provocateur and founder of the right-wing media group Infowars, declined comment to AP about what happened or whether he was injured. But he attributed the incident to a recent change of his wife’s medication.

“It’s a private family matter that happened on Christmas Eve,” Jones told the outlet in a brief interview. “I love my wife and care about her and it appears to be some kind of medication imbalance.”

Jones added that his wife’s arrest “doesn’t concern my politics” and that “it wasn’t some kind of personal hateful thing or anything.”

A bond had not been set for Wulff Jones as of Christmas Day, AP reported. However, she was no longer listed in jail records as of Sunday morning. It is unclear if she was released.

Officials with the Travis County sheriff’s department and Travis County courts did not immediately respond to requests for comment Sunday. No additional information was available.

The couple, who have one child together, have previously called the police on one another for drunk driving, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman.

Alex Jones is best known as the face of InfoWars, a daily talkshow where he spews misinformation — from calling the Sandy Hook school shooting a hoax to alleging the Clinton’s are connected to a child sex ring.

He filed a lawsuit Monday to block subpoenas by the U.S. House committee investigating the Jan. 6 insurrection. Jones spoke at a rally in support of then-President Donald Trump that proceeded the riot at the U.S. Capitol.

People surrounding Jones and Infowars have been charged with crimes relating to the insurrection.
