This North Texas city is one of the happiest in the nation, study says

Plano ranked 22nd nationwide in a recent study of the happiest places in the country.

Plano was the only North Texas city to make it into the top 50 cities on the list in the study by WalletHub.com, a personal finance website.

WalletHub’s study examined positive-psychology research to determine the rankings of the 182 largest cities in the United States, and at least two of the most populated cities in each state.

Measurements used in the study included emotional and physical well-being, income and employment and community and environment.

Each category was ranked with 30 relevant metrics. Those included indicators such as the depression rate, income growth rate and average leisure time per day.

Below are other North Texas cities on the list, along with their rankings:

  • 83rd – Grand Prairie
  • 89th – Irving
  • 97th – Garland
  • 103rd – Fort Worth
  • 107th – Arlington
  • 111th – Dallas

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the happiness of Americans, WalletHub noted.

The pandemic has caused a third of Americans to be so stressed that they sometimes find it hard to make basic decisions, such as what to wear or what to eat, according to a 2021 study by the American Psychological Association.

That means it is more important than ever for people to increase their happiness through family, friends, activities, entertainment, work and where they live, WalletHub said.
