Damaging winds, hail and potentially tornadoes are possible Monday evening as a surge of thunderstorms moves across North Texas, according to the National Weather Service.
The greatest likelihood for showers in Dallas-Fort Worth will be between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Brian James said. Threatening winds up to 65 mph, 2-inch hail and tornadoes are possible mainly east of D-FW, from Paris to Palestine, James said.
“We’ll have to be weather aware,” he said. “… In D-FW, we’re going to watch for where the thunderstorms develop, but it’s most likely going to be a bit further off to the east.”
Most of the day we’ll stay rain-free, but showers & storms are expected to develop late this afternoon or early evening. Some may become strong/severe, roughly along and east of I-35/35W. The weather service advised people to monitor the forecast later Monday and prepare to take action if a severe weather warning or watch is issued.
James said the storms should dry up by late Monday, about 11 p.m., leaving behind colder temperatures in the 40s overnight.
Temperatures will warm up to the high 70s and low 80s by midweek, and a chance of rain is likely again on Thursday, St. Patrick’s Day, James said.
