Dallas Love Field says face masks now optional after federal judge’s ruling

Dallas Love Field said Monday that face masks would now be optional for employees, passengers and other guests traveling through the airport after a federal judge struck down the COVID-19 health measure that has been mandated for air travelers throughout the pandemic.

The airport told WFAA-TV (Channel 8) that it would no longer enforce masks after the Transportation Security Administration said it would no longer carry out the mandate. Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport has not responded to the new ruling, the station reported.

Dallas-based Southwest Airlines and Fort Worth-based American Airlines, along with United, Delta and Alaska dropped face mask mandates within hours of the White House saying was lifting the public health measure.

A federal judge in Florida overturned the rule, prompting the White House to challenge the ruling or let it go.

The White House said in a statement that the decision meant that the “CDC’s public masking order is not in effect at this time” and that TSA will not enforce the rule requiring mask use on airplanes, trains and public transit buses.

“CDC recommends that people continue to wear masks in indoor public transportation settings,” the White House said.

DART and Trinity Metro have not said if they are changing face mask policies, according to WFAA.
