A disturbance brings a small chance for rain overnight

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — We all could use some rain to help fend off the developing drought, and there’s reason to hope that some of us will get a little rainfall overnight.

An upper-level disturbance passing overhead will bring widespread clouds and a few showers overnight and Wednesday morning. There’s even an outside chance a stray thunderstorm could pop up during the morning drive. The disturbance will push east of us by the afternoon, dropping the rain chances to near zero and bringing back the sunshine. You can expect a morning low near 70 and an afternoon high in the low 80s. It will remain breezy from the south at 20-30 mph with even higher gusts.

When could we get a more significant rain to help with the drought?
We’ll have to wait until next week. Next Monday we are expecting our next cool front, and for now we’ve got you down for a 30% chance of getting rainfall from showers and thunderstorms as the front rolls in. Computer models are optimistic we’ll all get a half inch soaking, but it’s too soon to raise rain expectations at this time.

How does the weekend look?
It will be a breezy, humid weekend. Despite the high humidity, there are no disturbances or fronts coming through to push the rain chance above 10%. Morning lows will dip into the low 70s with afternoon highs in the mid 80s. It will be partly cloudy both days with a southeast breeze up to 30 mph and wind gusts up to 40 mph, especially on Saturday.
