Suspect said he killed man at central Oak Cliff apartments in self-defense, affidavit says

Frederick Levoyd Dixon, 53, was arrested Thursday in the death of 40-year-old Calvin Johnson, who was shot to death April 10.

Police were called to an apartment complex in the 3500 block of South Polk Street shortly before 4:45 p.m. and found Johnson with multiple gunshot wounds, according to an arrest-warrant affidavit. He was taken to a hospital and later died, the affidavit says.

There were no details of what led to the shooting.

A witness told police that he came out of an apartment when he heard the gunshots and saw Johnson on the ground and Dixon driving away, the affidavit says.

The witness, who is friends with Dixon, said Dixon told him he shot Johnson in self-defense.

Dixon was arrested Thursday and has since bonded out, according to court records. An attorney listed for him in court records did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
