Warm and windy until a cool front brings rain chance next week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Get used to the Gulf breeze. It will stick with us through the weekend, priming the atmosphere for a higher chance of rain when a cool front arrives next week.

Thursday will be warm, windy and humid with highs set to peak in the mid 80s under a partly cloudy sky. While we can’t rule out a stray shower, your chance of rain is less than 10%, and any accumulations would measure just a few hundredths of an inch.

When could we get a more significant rain to help with the drought?
On Monday we are expecting a cool front to push through, and our confidence is growing that it will bring a line of showers and thunderstorms along with it. Computer models are optimistic many of us will get at least a half inch of rainfall. That wouldn’t bust the budding drought, but it sure would help. We’ve increased your rain chance to 40%.

How does the weekend look?
It will be a breezy, humid weekend. Despite the high humidity, there are no disturbances or fronts coming through to push the rain chance above 10%. Morning lows will dip into the low 70s with afternoon highs in the mid 80s. Sunday’s temperatures could even push close to 90. Both days will bring a mix of clouds and sunshine with a southeast breeze up to 30 mph and wind gusts up to 40 mph, especially on Saturday.
