49-year-old man behind bars in connection with slaying in southeast Oak Cliff

A 49-year-old man is behind bars in connection with a fatal shooting in southeast Oak Cliff.

Henry Venziel Ingram faces a capital murder charge in the slaying last week of 37-year-old Shelton Watson. His attorney did not immediately return a request for comment.

Just before midnight, officers were called to the 2800 block of East Ledbetter Drive, near Bonnie View Road, and found Watson in a parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

A witness told police that they saw Ingram drive up to a bus stop in a burgundy van to speak to a woman. The witness heard Ingram say that “no one was going to mess with” the woman, an arrest-warrant affidavit says.

The witness then heard gunshots and saw Watson run away. The witness also saw Ingram get out of his van, take Watson’s phone, and then drive away with the woman, according to the affidavit.

Police found the burgundy van at a home near the shooting and linked it to an April 18 accident that involved Ingram, the affidavit says.

The witness identified a photograph of Ingram, according to the affidavit.

Ingram was booked into the Dallas County jail Sunday and remains in custody, with bail set at $1 million. Court records show he was sentenced in 2014 to 10 years in prison for burglary and released on parole last year.
