Ozone Pollution Watch for Thursday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — The Gulf breeze is coming back and bringing weather changes along with it. There’s also an Ozone Pollution Watch in effect for Thursday afternoon.

The southeasterly wind will bring back clouds and humidity. Patchy fog is possible for the morning commute, but the winds should be strong enough to keep it from getting too dense. Once the sun breaks through the clouds, temperatures will warm into the mid 80s.

Ozone pollution could reach unhealthy levels in some Houston-area neighborhoods during the afternoon hours. Ozone is a lung irritant and can trigger asthma attacks in sensitive individuals. We’ll be monitoring the ozone levels for you in case you want to limit your outdoor exposure.

When could we get more rain?
Our next chance for rain comes over the weekend, and it’s a small chance at that. The Gulf breeze will pump in a lot of moisture as the jet stream moves back overhead. For now we have a low chance for isolated thunderstorms on Sunday as the main jet stream disturbance is expected to move toward North Texas. If the next jet stream disturbance ends up tracking toward us, we will need to increase our chance for rain Sunday and especially Monday.

What else is in store for the weekend?
Both days of the weekend will be warm, windy, and humid. Low temperatures will bottom out in the low 70s with high temperatures pushing close to 90. There will be a mix of clouds and sunshine, so protect yourself from the sun to avoid getting a sunburn.
