Another day with a few showers and storms, but far from a washout

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — It’s another mild start across SE Texas, with temps around 70 degrees and plenty of moisture in place. We’re seeing a few spotty showers, but most of the area will remain dry through the morning. Like yesterday, there’s a chance for a storm or two in the early evening, but the overall coverage of storms will remain on the low end.
Are there any other chances for rain?

The jet stream disturbance that enters the state on Sunday will glide to our north on Monday. If it does track to our north Monday, our rain chance will remain low at 20%. If it happens to track farther south, then our chance for rain will go up, and there could even be a few severe thunderstorms. After Monday, the next hope for rain will depend on another weak front coming into Texas. The current outlook is mixed on whether or not it gets close enough to Houston to bring us any rain as we approach Mother’s Day weekend.

How did Monday’s rain impact the drought?
Drought conditions improved north of I-10 where the most rain fell. We actually saw the drought worsen southwest of Houston where the least rain fell. At the same time, almost everyone got enough rain to end any local burn bans. Jackson County is the lone holdout with a burn ban still in effect.
