Child killed in accidental Oak Cliff shooting by man playing with gun, police say

A child was killed in southeast Oak Cliff on Thursday evening when a man who was playing with a handgun accidentally shot him, Dallas police said.

The incident happened about 7:45 p.m. in the 2500 block of Fatima Avenue, near South Lancaster Road. Police said a man was playing with a handgun when it went off.

A department spokesman declined to give the child’s age but said he was not an infant.

It’s not clear what the relationship was between the child and the shooter.

olice were continuing to investigate late Thursday. They did not say whether anyone was arrested or whether they expected charges to be filed.
