North Texas election results: School districts

Voters across North Texas went to the polls Saturday to elect school board trustees and city council candidates, as well as decide whether to approve two property tax amendments to the Texas Constitution.

These are the current vote totals for selected school board elections in Collin, Dallas, Denton and Tarrant counties. More complete results will be available after all votes have been tallied.

Allen

Board of Trustees President Amy Gnadt defeated challenger Joe Boylan. The board’s vice president, Kelley Rowley, will head to a runoff election May 24 against challenger Elle Holland. Place 2 will also be decided by a runoff between Sam Abiog and Christina Cabral.

Arlington

Two incumbents took the lead in Arlington, where the election centered largely on increasing teacher salaries and making up losses due to the pandemic. Still, issues like critical race theory and the mask mandate surfaced at voter forums, according to a report by KERA.

Carroll (Southlake)

In Southlake, two candidates backed by the conservative Southlake Families political action committee, Alex Sexton and Andrew Yeager, took substantial leads for two school board spots. Yeager has been representing Place 7 for Carroll ISD since winning a special election for the seat in November.

The issue of critical race theory crept into this suburban school district’s election. Some Richardson voters received mailers decorated with baby blocks with the letters CRT.

“RISD schools can’t teach the basics if they’re too busy teaching ‘critical race theory’ nonsense,” the flyers read.
