Suspect hospitalized after being shot by officers at apartment complex in SW Houston, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A man has been hospitalized after a shooting involving Houston police officers Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 10600 block of Beechnut in southwest Houston, while officers were responding to a welfare check of a man breaking windows and cutting himself with glass.

Upon arrival, officers found the man in the courtyard of the apartment complex. They tried to deescalate the situation and called for backup. During this, the man suddenly charged at the officers. That’s when one officer discharged his stun gun and another officer discharged his gun at the man. The man fell but managed to get back up. That’s when the officer who initially fired his gun used his stun gun, according to police.

The suspect went down a second time, but got up and knocked one of the officers down. Things were eventually under control.

At this time, the case remains under investigation.
