Ozone pollution Friday, small chance for a big storm Saturday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Ozone pollution could again reach unhealthy levels Friday, and there’s a small chance you could encounter a big thunderstorm on Saturday.

Temperatures are quickly climbing after morning lows in the 60s, with plenty of sunshine working through partly cloudy skies, warming temperatures up in to the low 90s this afternoon.

The hot air, sunshine, and light winds could allow unhealthy levels of ozone to accumulate in some Houston neighborhoods. Ozone is a lung irritant that can trigger asthma attacks in sensitive individuals.

What are the chances I’ll get rain on Saturday?
It’s only a 20% chance you’ll get rain, but it’s the best chance we’ve got until next weekend at the earliest. While the rain chance might be low, if something develops it could be in the form of a strong thunderstorm capable of producing gusty winds and small hill.

What else can we expect for the weekend?
To put it simply, more near record heat. Lows will drop into the low 70s while highs hold steady in the low 90s. Thankfully it looks like the clouds will cooperate to view the total lunar eclipse Sunday night.
