Small chance for a big storm Saturday, lunar eclipse Sunday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — There’s a small chance you could encounter a big thunderstorm on Saturday, otherwise it’s going to be another unseasonably hot afternoon with an Ozone Pollution Watch.

Morning sunshine will rapidly warm temperatures into the 80s, then clouds will build through the afternoon as a small upper air disturbance moves overhead. This disturbance will give us a 20% chance for rain. While the chance for rain is low, if anything pops up it could develop into a strong thunderstorms with gusty winds, small hail, and frequent lightning.

Otherwise unhealthy levels of ozone pollution could accumulate in some Houston neighborhoods as temperatures heat up toward 90. Ozone is a lung irritant that can trigger asthma attacks in sensitive individuals.

What will the weather be like for the lunar eclipse on Sunday?
It looks like we’ll have a mostly clear sky with temperatures in the upper 70s as the eclipse begins around 9:30 p.m. The sky should remain mostly clear early into Monday morning, making for perfect conditions to view the entire eclipse!
After Saturday, when is our next chance for rain?

At this time it looks like we’ll have to wait until the following weekend. That means we have a hot, dry, drought-building work week ahead. The good news is that there’s a decent chance a front will get close enough next weekend to increase our rain chances beyond the 20%-30% we currently have the in forecast.
