Weather Alert Day: Strong storms will blow through early Wednesday morning

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Another round of thunderstorms arriving early Wednesday morning could bring heavy rain, noisy rumbles of thunder, and gusty winds to many neighborhoods and communities in southeast Texas. We’ve declared it an Weather Alert Day to encourage you to stay weather aware. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of southeast Texas.

A line of thunderstorms developing along a cool front push through Wednesday morning. The greatest risk of severe wind gusts will be north of Houston, and you can expect messy roads for the morning drive. Minor street flooding and scattered power outages are possible where the most intense thunderstorms track. Most will pick up between 1-3″ of rain. Small hail and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out along the leading edge of the storms.

Temperatures will drop into the low-to-mid 60s once the storms arrive, and temperature will only rebound into the upper 70s during the afternoon. A thin band of rain is possible in the mid-afternoon if enough sunshine can break through the clouds. Otherwise, the bulk of the rain will fall in the morning with several hours of steady rain after the leading edge of heavy rain pushes through.

What can we expect after Wednesday?
We’re going to catch a couple of really nice late May days Thursday and Friday. Low temperatures will bottom out in the 60s with highs in the 80s. The humidity will remain low with plenty of sunshine.

What are we expecting for Memorial Day weekend?

The weather also looks gorgeous over the weekend with mostly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday. A little more cloud cover moves in Monday but overall the weather looks great for outdoor activities. Highs should top out in the upper 80s/low 90s.
