Uvalde native, actor Matthew McConaughey says re-evaluation needed after school shooting

One of Uvalde’s most famous natives — actor Matthew McConaughey — said in a Tweet Tuesday night that gun violence is an epidemic Americans can control.

In a lengthy Tweet, the actor who flirted with a run for Texas governor this year, shared his thoughts on the shooting that left 19 elementary studnts and two adults dead.

“We have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms granted,” McConaughey wrote.

He said reevaluation is needed.

“This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we can be better,” McConaughey tweeted. “Action must be taken to see that no parent in Uvalde and the others before them has to experience what they have had to endure.”

The actor has previously defended the Second Amendment right to bear arms, while also decrying the gun violence in the U.S.
