Warming up, dry through Memorial Day

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Temperatures are starting off this morning in the low 70s, and will quickly be warming in to the low 90s by the afternoon. Humidity levels will hold below summertime levels, so finding a spot in the shade will still feel relatively comfortable.
What are we expecting for Memorial Day weekend?

The sunshine continues over the weekend with a partly cloudy sky returning by Memorial Day. We’ll get to hold on to some of that dry air through Saturday morning, but you’ll notice the humidity levels increasing Sunday and Monday as a stronger Gulf breeze kicks in. Afternoon temperatures will be hot with highs in the low-to-mid 90s.

When could we get more rain?
It’s going to be a long time before the rain returns. A heat ridge settling in overhead will keep it mostly dry over the next 10 days. Only the sea breeze front that comes in from the Gulf during the afternoon could trigger a shower or thunderstorms. We’ve got a minor chance of rain in the forecast by the middle of next week, but don’t get your hopes up too much.
Is there anything worth watching in the tropics?
We are keeping an eye on a developing tropical system in the Pacific that is expected to become Tropical Storm Agatha. We continue to see a signal that this will turn north into Mexico and then emerge in the Gulf of Mexico during the first few days of June. It’s no real concern to us right now, but you can learn more about it in our daily tropical update.
